Empty Your Closets
and Get Your Walking Shoes on…
…as L&E Research joins Alzheimers North Carolina for a day of food, fun and music at their 19th annual Alzheimer’s Walk-Triangle at Booth Amphitheatre in Cary on
October 1, 2011—
registration begins at 8:30 a.m.,
Walk begins at 10:00 a.m.
L&E is proud of the support and success it has enjoyed from individuals and businesses in the Triangle area and is giving back by hosting an L&E Team to walk. We encourage you to sign on to Team L&E, build your own team or make other contributions to help us raise funds for Alzheimers North Carolina. Listed below are ways you can participate:
- Walk with Team L&E, support the “A Team” (the AlzNC team) or form your own team by registering to walk at www.alznc.org. You can also learn more at the AlzNC site about all of the wonderful things they are doing in our community.
- Donate “gently worn” clothing and household items to support Alzheimer’s research through the Guardian Angel Thrift Shop in Fuquay-Varina. Trucks will be in the Booth Amphitheatre parking lot to collect items and Guardian Angel staff will be on hand to provide tax deductible receipts from 8:30 a.m. – 12:00 Noon. If this time isn’t optimal for you but want to donate, visit their location in Fuquay Varina at any time to donate, just tell them L&E sent you! Their web site to learn more is www.guardianangelthrift.org. Funds raised by Guardian Angel Thrift Shop support the research program of Alzheimers North Carolina.
- If none of these meet your needs, call 832-3732 or 800-228-8738 to discuss other opportunities, including but not limited to raffle prize donations or charitable contributions. AlzNC will appreciate any and all support.
Alzheimer’s disease affects an estimated 5.4 million Americans — 170,000 of those in North Carolina—by mid-century, those numbers will quadruple unless we find a cause, cure and prevention. The 24-hour care provided mostly by family members is stressful and destructive—a few hours of respite can help. This is one of the ways your contributions will aid families dealing with dementia. And we ‘re proud that all funds raised will stay right here in our community to help eastern North Carolina families.
From the Heart
As noted last year in our appeal for Interact, I was raised in a family who believed in giving back to the communities in which we lived. Having spent more than half my life in Raleigh, I am blessed to live in a community that has been so very good to me. Last year, I asked our team at L&E what we could do to give back to our community—they chose Interact; this year, we chose Alzheimers North Carolina. On behalf of everyone at L&E Research, thank you for supporting our mission to give back. Those with dementia may not remember who we are or what we are doing but we can remember them by helping Alzheimers North Carolina provide services that will offer them a quality of life. To my team at L&E, thank you for your loyalty and commitment to L&E and to helping AlzNC…help others.
About Alzheimers North Carolina
Alzheimers North Carolina is a 501©3 nonprofit incorporated in the State of NC and governed by a local Board of Directors. Founded in the early 80’s by former Governor Bob Scott and a team of families and professionals at Duke University to educate the public and provide programs and services to families and professionals affected by Alzheimer’s disease, it has been the voice for dementia patients and their families for 29 years. It became Alzheimers North Carolina following a unanimous vote by the Board of Directors of the former Eastern North Carolina Chapter to disaffiliate from the national Alzheimer’s Association on November 24, 2009. A new name but same staff and mission of providing educational programs and services in local communities to individuals with dementia and their caregivers, advocacy for a quality of life for those diagnosed and research funding for a cause, cure and prevention of Alzheimer’s and related dementias. Disaffiliation has allowed better oversight of donor intent and more funds for services in local communities. All funds raised from the Walk will remain in NC for programs and services or when designated, for research. For additional information and a list of services, contact the local office or go to www.alznc.org.
About Guardian Angel Thrift Store
Guardian Angel Thrift, a 501©3 nonprofit incorporated in North Carolina to raise funds for Alzheimer’s research, was founded by Mrs. Laura Gaddis, who lost her mother to Alzheimer’s disease and wanted to make a difference. Guardian Angel has done just that by raising more than $1.2 million for Alzheimer’s research over the past 10 years—those numbers could increase with your donations of clothing and household items. Funds raised have been, and continue to be, allocated by a Research Committee of Alzheimers North Carolina for Alzheimer’s research programs. To date, UNC-Chapel Hill and Duke University have been recipients of the majority of these research grants—visit their web site at angels4alzheimers@earthlink.net.
