What People Are Saying About L&E Research

Chamber of Commerce and Better Business Bureau Members

Information BoothWe know what we’re saying sounds too good to be true.
We’ve been told that a lot actually.  But everyone that signs up and then participates in our studies, always tells us how pleasantly surprised they were and how much fun they had making a difference by sharing their opinions on how to make the products and services they use…better.  And getting paid for it!  So here’s some questions we hear a lot, in hopes it makes you comfortable being a member.  Our video from our President takes about 4 minutes and covers most everything, but we know some people still like to read, so we give you plenty of it on this page:

  1. So what do you want from me?

  2. So you want me to fill out a form that tells you about me, what's on the form?

  3. If I fill out your membership form, will you ever sell our information?

  4. If I fill out your membership form, what will you do to protect my information

  5. If I participate in your studies, you going to try to sell me something? I'm not going to be asked to buy makup, cleaning products or candles am I?

  6. So if I do one of your studies, I'll get paid for it?

  7. How much will I get paid, and how long will it take?

  8. Is there a way to improve my chances of participating?

  9. What else do you think I should know?

  10. Where is L&E located?
  1. So what is it that you want from me?
Simple, if you are 18 or older, we want you to fill out our form…takes 10 minutes…and tell us about yourself.  Then, we’ll call you and/or send you emails when we have studies that look like they could be a good fit for you, and if convenient for you, respond, as the more questions you answer for us, the more we know and the better we can find a study that fits for you.  If you qualify for one of our studies, we’ll invite you to come and share your opinions.  And if you come and share your opinions, we’ll pay you for your time!  Our goal is to find the products and services you care about, and then find the client that is looking to talk to you.  And if you are under 18…have your parents or legal guardian fill out the form, as we have done studies with people as young as elementary school age!

  2. So you want me to fill out a form that tells you about me, what’s on the form?
About 10 minutes of questions, mostly demographic (age, gender, etc.), purchase questions (i.e. what types of products you buy), where you buy stuff, medical conditions etc.. We guarantee our questions will never include your social security, bank account information or other sensitive data.  Our questions are what our clients ask of us…not everything, but a lot of it.  And then as we screen you for studies, we’ll learn more about you and in time, be able to find a study that’s right for you.

  3. If I fill out your membership form, will you ever sell our information?
    Nope…never.  We guarantee that.

  4. If I fill out your membership form, what will you do to protect my information?
Two things:  one, we host your information on secure servers with secure socket layering (SSL), password protected, hosted by professional server companies that protect really important data for banks, agencies, and Fortune 500 companies.  Two, all of our employees sign legal agreements swearing that if they give your information away, they risk criminal prosecution.  We take protecting your information seriously...because it is the lifeblood of our business.Go to the top of the page

  5. If I participate in your studies, are you going to try to sell me something?  I’m not going to be asked to buy make up, cleaning products or candles am I?
No sales…never.  Our business is the research business:   we’re really good at matching clients up with the people that care about their products and services.  We don’t sell you anything, and our clients don’t sell you anything.  If you’re recruited to participate in one of our studies, its because our client really wants to hear what you have to say, and values your time so will in turn pay you for that.  That’s our guarantee:  no sales, just research that pays you for your time.

  6. So if I do one of your studies, I’ll get paid for it?
    Yes, always.

  7. How much will I get paid, and how long will it take?
We’re going to ask you questions online or over the phone to see if you qualify for a study, this process usually takes a few minutes.  If you qualify, you will be told how much the study will pay you for your time.  If you participate, you will always get paid.  Typically, we pay about $30-$40/hr. or more, with the time between 1-2 hours.  If the study is related to your work, the pay is usually even more.  And, if you’re not interested in a study we discuss with you, or the timing is bad, that’s ok…just tell us and we’ll call you again another time.

  8. Is there a way to improve my chances of participating?
Yes, we recommend watching this video, takes less than 4 minutes but tells you everything that you can do to improve your chances of us connecting you with the right study.  In general,  the more current your information, and the more emails you respond to, and the more calls you take from us to answer our questions, the more we learn about you, which helps us match you with studies more quickly.  When you sign up, you will have an account with us as a member…just keep that account current and be engaged…that’s the best advice to improve your chances of participating.

  9. What else do you think I should know?
We highly recommend advanced mathematics, seems to be the future.  Oh, you mean about us!  Here’s some other things we’ve heard asked from time to time:
    1. Who does this research?
Just about everyone. Why? Because it’s the best way to hear “the voice of the customer.” As our world becomes more complex and relationships between companies and their customers becomes more personal…think technology and how they have made us so much more connected…hearing what customers think becomes that much more important. And its not just companies that sell things: attorneys want to hear how you would rule if you were on a jury trial, government agencies want to hear how they can improve their services (honest…), publishers want to speak with teachers about their textbooks and how to make them better, pharmaceutical companies want to speak with physicians and other healthcare professionals to better understand what they prescribe and why.
    2. Will I know who the research is for?
Probably not: most companies keep that private, as they don’t want to bias your opinion. And privacy is at the heart of what L&E does: your privacy, and the privacy of our clients. We like to think of ourselves as the Switzerland of business: we facilitate getting the right people in the room and providing a safe setting for ideas to be exchanged and learning to happen. And cool part of it is…you’re the teacher, with no test or preparation, because its your opinion companies care about!
    3. How will I know whether the person calling, or the email I get, is really from L&E?
Good question. We’ve had people try to impersonate us before, because they know how successful we are and they want your information. Problem is they won’t protect it like we do, and sometimes, they have bad intentions. We’ve all been scammed before in our life, it stinks no question. So here’s a few tips to ensure you’re talking to us:
      1. Look on your caller ID: most of our Recruiters have L&E phones that have the L&E Research name on their ID. And if they don’t and you’re unsure, ask if you can call them back: they all have an extension thru our Recruiter Center number (Raleigh: 919-890-3193; Tampa 813-286-9000 or toll free 800-566-0047).
      2. Are they asking for your sensitive information, like bank account numbers or social security numbers? Not us…trust us, we don’t want that information!
      3. Are they trying to sell you something? Nope…not us.
      4. To “participate”, you have to pay money? Nope…not us.

    4. Usually companies like yours belong to organizations or associations that help me feel better about being affiliated with you. How about L&E?
Yes…locally we are members of the Better Business Bureau. Check us out there…you’ll find our reputation is outstanding. We also are members of a variety of market research organizations, some of which (the Marketing Research Association, or MRA) actually have rules of conduct that govern our industry that protect your rights (if you need help sleeping, we highly recommend it). Its called the MRA Code of Marketing Research Standards, http://www.marketingresearch.org/the-code-of-marketing-research-standards-0 we follow all of the rules, including the ones that govern what we promise to members. In fact, we have had more than one officer of the company serve on various MRA boards. Other associations we are members of include the American Marketing Association (AMA) and the Pharmaceutical Marketing Research Group (PMRG).

    5. What do you guys do in the community, anything?
We like to think we’ve done a lot. We like to have fun, but our mission is to enrich the communities we live in. One way we do that is the cash payments made to those that participate in our studies. We’ve paid over $5.2 million to over 46,000 people since 2005, just because they shared their opinion with our clients! But we believe our obligation goes way beyond that: its why we’ve given money and time to such charities as Junior Achievement, Alzheimer’s North Carolina, Wake Tech Community College and many others. In 2010, we took this one step further and started asking our members to get involved: in 2010, we organized a clothing drive for Interact of Wake County that resulted in two tractor trailers full of stuff! And in 2011, we rallied our members for the Alzheimer’s of North Carolina, raising thousands of dollars, helping their walk become the largest they ever had in terms of attendance and “huge amounts of donations” (their words, not ours) to a local thrift store that donates all their profits to them. Moving forward, we intend to grow our impact and involve our membership even more, finding win/win solutions that we all can participate and be proud of.
